Healthy People Illawarra promotes physical activity for all age groups through working for active transport, active play and child friendly urban design. 

 

 Physical activity in everyday life has substantial positive impacts on people’s health and well being. People who are physically active are less likely to develop lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, the negative effects of obesity, and are less likely to suffer from mental illness.  Not only do people benefit from being more active, but there are also environmental, economic and social benefits. An active community uses cars less often, has less congested roads, cleaner air, and is more likely to be a stronger community with greater connectedness and participation.
