Stir it Up
Stir it up! is a project which supports people to promote healthy eating and good food in their local communities.
Stir it up! volunteers receive free training with a focus on healthy eating, practical food ideas, presentation skills, kitchen safety and food hygiene. On completion of the training the volunteers receive a certificate from TAFE and are paired up with a mentor to deliver healthy eating activities in their communities.
The healthy food activities include presentations at community gardens, nutrition talks and cooking demonstrations, cooking classes and supermarket tours. These activities occur at schools, preschools, playgroups, community organisations and community events.
Stir it up! is coordinated by Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) Health Promotion Service and Healthy Cities Illawarra (HCI) in partnership with Baptist Community Services, TAFE Illawarra Outreach Unit and Wollongong Church of Christ with project funding - from the Australian Government.
Stir it up! began in August 2010 and volunteering is open to members of the local community aged 18 years and over who are interested in promoting healthy eating in their local community.
